2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: What Preparations Are Essential Before Installing a Steering Knuckle on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before putting in the front steering knuckle, take care to clean and dry the ball joint stud tapers with mineral spirits and remove any dirt and grease. During installation of the hub/bearing with ABS, place the speed sensor opening in front of the vehicle. Installing the brake dust shield and hub/bearing onto the steering knuckle should come next and it should be tightened with 3 bolts at 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.). After that, add the knuckle to the upper and lower ball joints and attach the upper and lower ball joint nuts. Secure the upper ball joint nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) by turning it another 90° after tightening it and secure the lower ball joint nut to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.) by turning it an additional 90° after tightening it. Slide the hydraulic jack out from the lower control arm. Put the tie rod end in place and tighten the nut until you reach 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Put the front halfshaft into the hub/bearing and tighten the halfshaft nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) If applied by the factory, the ABS wheel speed sensor should be installed. Mount the tire and wheel, eliminate the support and haul your vehicle down. Next, get a mechanical shop to do an alignment on your car.
