  A: Before beginning to service and repair the alternator, remove the negative battery connection to stop damaging or getting harmed by the electrical system. After that, remove both the air cleaner assembly and the generator drive belt. Grab then loosen the upper mounting bolt followed by the lower mounting bolt and nut. Take the plastic cover off the B+ mounting stud and then unscrew the B+ terminal nut and take off the B+ terminal from the generator. Releasing the field wire's electrical connector by pressing on the tab and removing the generator finishes the process.
