2009 Jeep Commander Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 3.7L Engine on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Always make sure to release the pressure from the fuel system before servicing the 3.7L engine's fuel rail, as its pressure does not go away even when the engine is not running. Both left and right fuel rails should be changed as a complete assembly and never pull apart their halves near the connectors that have no clamps-don't bend or kink the tubes during removal. First, undo the cap on the fuel tank filler tube and then release the negative battery terminal. After that, get rid of the throttle body's air duct and air box and then use two bolts to remove the air resonator's mounting bracket. Loosen the connection at the fuel rail with a special tool and also remove any needed vacuum lines from the throttle body. Pull the red slider away from each injector and push down the tab to get rid of all the electrical connectors. The factory wiring installation marks the place for each injector. Also, take out all the electrical connectors at the throttle body sensors and unplug the six ignition coils from their sockets. Afterwards, take out the fuel rail mounting bolts. Rock and pull the left fuel rail gently, letting the fuel injectors pass the machined areas in the cylinder head; then do the same on the right fuel rail until all the injectors have cleared the holes. After that, take off the fuel rail, keeping the injectors attached, from the engine. Should fuel injectors have to be removed, make sure to use the suitable method for their removal.
