  A: Removing the fuel tank after draining it is the first step in working with the fuel level sensor. Before displacing the fuel pump module, run compressed air around the fuel tank opening to get rid of any dust or grime. Insert the outer edge of the lock-ring remover/installer into the notches, put a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar into the tool and rotate it opposite the direction of normal clock hands. Position the fuel pump module, remembering that a little fuel will be left in the reservoir, so don't let it spill anywhere inside the car. Keep the tank aside while holding the fuel pump module, turn it sideways so any remaining fuel can drain out of the tank. Lift out the module only when the float arm stays straight, then discard the rubber O-ring once out.
