2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does an Automatic Transmission Filter Impact Fluid and Filter Service in a Transaxle on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: It is necessary to carry out fluid and filter service as recommended by the maintenance guide and to use FCA approved ATF+4 Fluids during service. You should replace the filter and clean the magnet in the oil pan with a dry clean cloth at the same time you change the transmission oil. When you disassemble the transaxle, change both the fluid and the filter too. Put the vehicle on a hoist and set a container under the transaxle oil pan. Take the engineer out of the system by making the engine riser cross piece better accessible with higher engine and denser parts. Loosen the bolt on the pan, hit that corner to open the seal, then allow the oil to drain before taking off the oil pan. Replace the filter and o-ring at the bottom of the valve body, clean both the oil pan and its magnet and reinstall the pan with new Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant and tighten all bolts to 19 Nm (165 in. lbs.). Pour four liters of Mopar® ATF+4 down the dipstick opening, start the engine and let it run at an idle for at least sixty seconds. After you have applied your parking and brake, place the same selector lever through all positions, making sure it ends either in park or neutral. Always have the transaxle fluid level at 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the lowest mark indicated by the dipstick. After the transaxle has reached normal operating heat (180°F [82°C]), once more check the fluid level. Preventing dirt from getting into the transaxle requires ensuring the dipstick is all the way inside. Be sure the transaxle oil is properly warm and use a decent suction tool, then insert the line into the dipstick tube so it reaches the base of the pan to get all the oil out. Once you have removed the suction line, put four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 down the dipstick hole and start the machine. Check the fluid level again in the same way as before, but be sure the dipstick is set in place for the next check.
