2010 Jeep Liberty Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: What Steps Should Be Taken During an Automatic Transmission Filter Change and Which Fluids Are Best on 2010 Jeep Liberty?
A: Fluids marked Mopar® ATF+4, Automatic Transmission Fluid, can only be used in the transmission sump and when changing the oil, be certain to change the filter and clean the magnet inside the oil pan. Should the transmission be taken apart, the fluid and filter must both be changed. Set the hoist and put a big drain container underneath the vehicle, with the drain at the same level as the oil pan, to catch the fluid. Factory-applied sealing patches are present on certain oil pan bolts; these should be removed for re-use. After loosening the bolts, strike the pan at a corner to break it loose and let the fluid flow out, then pull out the pan. Put a new filter and o-ring on the bottom of the valve body, then tighten the retaining screws to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.). Refill the sealing patch of the bolt with the Mopar® Lock AND Seal Adhesive before placing the oil pan bolt in the specified hole. Clean the pan and magnet, attach the pan using new Mopar® Silicone Adhesive sealant and tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (14.5 ft. lbs.). Inside the dipstick opening, add four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4, Automatic Transmission Fluid. After starting the engine and waiting a minute with it idling, briefly press the selector lever into every gear, including park or neutral. Make sure the transmission is at the recommended level which is 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the lowest mark on the dipstick. Check the fluid once more after the transmission is cooled to about 82°C (180°F). Be sure the dipstick is all the way inside the opening so that no dust reaches the transmission.
