2010 Jeep Wrangler Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Is the Correct Method to Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2010 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before installing the Camshaft Position Sensor, examine the O-ring for damage and replace it if found, after moistening it with clean oil. Wipe the old spacer from the sensor face and make sure you replace it with a newer one, as proper clearance should exist between the sensor and the camshaft gear; not doing so could lead to either broken sensors or incorrect signals. Fix the camshaft position sensor in the chain case cover and turn it into place, after which you can push it down so it contacts the camshaft gear. Once fixed, tighten the retaining bolt in the hole with the sensor to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). Connect the electrical connector to the CMP sensor and after that, connect the negative battery cable and loosen or tighten the nut to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.). Any time any part of the powertrain system is repaired or replaced, including the flywheel, valvetrain, camshaft or crankshaft sensors or components, you should do the Cam/Crank Variation Relearn procedure.
