Q: How to Install a Water Pump on a 3.8L Engine on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The first part of water pump installation is to insert a new seal into the housing where the crankshaft places the water pump. The water pump pulley needs to be a loose fit between the pump housing and drive hub before you start installing the water pump. After that, set the water pump pulley loosely between the pump housing and drive hub and attach the pump and pulley to the timing chain cover by tightening its bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Set the pulley on the water pump hub, insert the bolts and tighten them to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). By hand, turn the pump to confirm there's no obstruction and then fit the accessory drive belt. Following that, attach the drive belt shield, get rid of the air inside the cooling system and fill it back up. You should then check that there are no leaks in your car's cooling system.
