Before servicing or fixing the left exhaust manifold, remove the negative
Battery Cable in the trunk and the intake air temperature sensor connector. Take off the air cleaner housing assembly, oil dipstick tube and the
Oxygen Sensor. After, undo the heat shields and use a hoist to pick the vehicle up. Get rids of the connector from the downstream oxygen sensor and take off the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Take out the exhaust manifold attaching bolts, then remove the manifold. Inspect the manifold for cracks, measure its flatness and check the gasket for any unusual appearance. Check for distortion on the cylinder head mounting surface by using both a straightedge and thickness gauge. To complete the install, join the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle as before and add the gasket and manifold, tightening the bolts in the center first and moving outward to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Once done, put back on the lower and upper heat shields and attach the fasteners to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.), then slot in the exhaust pipes and the downstream oxygen sensor connectors. Drop the vehicle, install the oxygen sensor, fasten its electricity connector and lastly reattach the negative cable to the battery.
