Before servicing the front parking brake cable, first lift and stabilize the vehicle. At the rear, unscrew the cable connector from the front brake cable, then take the front cable out of the equalizer. First, remove the screw holding the cable routing bracket to the
Rear Crossmember front flange, then get rid of the nuts, bolt and push-pins attaching the lower rear wheelhouse shield to the vehicle and finally pull out the shield. After that, push out the push-pins connected the lower front wheelhouse shield to the front wheelhouse shield and body and then take out the lower front wheelhouse shield. Take away the screw and routing clip nuts that connect the cable to the bottom of the instrument panel and lower your vehicle. Take out the sill scuff plate and side trim from the driver door, fold back the carpet and remove the strand of the front parking brake cable connector. Set a 13 mm 12-point wrench over the cable retainer on the lever bracket to push down on the retainer fingers and pull the cable out of the bracket. Pull off the parking brake cable grommet off the floor pan and send the cable through the hole beneath the car. When installing, lower the new parking brake cable through the floor pan and put the grommet in place. Bring the cable end through the hole in the lever bracket and secure the retainer into the bracket to hold it there. Connect the cable to the lever at the front parking brake, lay the carpet into the vehicle again and install the retaining clip. Replace the driver door opening sill scuff plate and cowl side trim and remember to again lift and support the car. Attach the screw and routing clip nuts to secure the cable under the body, guide the cable over the rear crossmember and put the other end and housing into the receiver above the differential. Bring the front parking brake cable to its connector along the right side of the rear cable. Tighten the screw on the cable routing bracket to the rear crossmember front flange, place the lower rear wheelhouse shield on the car body and use nuts, bolts and pushpins to safely fix it in place. Set the body panel beneath the lower front wheelhouse shield, then fix them together with the push-pins. The rear wheels should be just above the floor, the parking brake lever pulled up and released and then put back into release again. Use the lever so that the rear wheels don't spin, then release it so they turn easily without a lot of resistance. Once you're done, pull on the parking brake lever and gently lower the car.
