Chrysler Aspen Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Dimmer Switch on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
When installing the combination switch, ensure the SRS is turned off by taking out the battery negative cable, isolating it and waiting two minutes as the system drains its capacitor. Pull out the multi-function switch from its plastic bag and make sure the alignment pins are lined up with their holes in the housing's left side. Access the mounting housing and fit the switch by inserting two screws there and tightening them to 2 Nm, before connecting the wire harness connector to the back of the switch. Attach the lower shroud to the steering column, then put in and tighten one center screw from below to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Lift the upper shroud over the lower shroud, so the gearshift lever gap hider is positioned over the lever hole, position the snap areas and apply hand pressure to join them. Use two screws on the outer sides of the upper shroud to hold it in place and tighten them to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Put the tilt steering column knob onto the tilt adjuster actuator and tighten the screw to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). After reinstalling the Steering Wheel, place the yellow rubber booted dowel on the rotor found between the two fins of the armature hub. Put the steering wheel back, plug its wire harness into the steering column and confirm the harness is laid out properly. After that, put the Air Bag driver back on the steering wheel and reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
  • Q: How to Remove a Dimmer Switch on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
To remove the combination switch, first turn off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by removing and isolating the negative battery cable for two minutes to allow the capacitor to discharge. First, take out the driver Air Bag from the Steering Wheel and after that, separate each steering wheel wire harness connector from the upper Clock Spring connector receptacles. Confirm that the screws attached to the steering wheel puller are tightly held into the armature, but don't damage the Clock Spring. After that, detach the steering wheel from the Steering Column, next remove the screw with the tilt steering column knob and remove that knob from the left side of the column. From the space below the steering column, loosen the two outboard suspension screws attaching the upper shroud to the lower shroud, then press gently inward on the shroud from each side to release its snaps. After removing the upper shroud from the lower shroud and steering column, take out the screw in the center and remove the lower shroud as well. Separate the wire harness connector from the back of the switch housing and unscrew both screws attaching the switch to the mounts. Use the switch control stalk to pull the switch to the left which removes it from the security housing.
