The Ball Joint in Chrysler Cirrus vehicles is used to attach the control arms to the steering knuckles and permits rotation about two axes while seemingly displacing in all three. These components are necessary for the suspension and steering system; they are like ball and socket like a joint in tetrapod animals. A ball joint is often made from steel, and it is effectively formed with a bearing stud and a socket connected in a boot kind of housing that keep off dust and provides room for lubricant circulation. The modern cars therefore employ ball joints instead of the older kingpin design since they are more elastic, with independent adjustment of caster and camber without causing compliance, thereby improving vehicles' handling, stability, and comfort.

Chrysler Cirrus Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Ball Joint on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
You have to first remove the rear upper control arm to take out the upper ball joint. Pry the seal boot off the ball joint assembly using a screwdriver or suitable object. Install the Remover/Installer, Special Tool 6804, upside down on top of the ball joint assembly and put the Receiving Cup, Special Tool 6758, under the control arm when you remove the assembly. Take the ball joint assembly out of the control arm by using an arbor press. Set the ball joint assembly into the matching control arm hole by hand, aligning it so that it isn't bent and can't rub against anything. Slot the ball joint assembly into Receiving Cup using the arbor press, support the lower control arm and place Remover/Installer, Special Tool 6804, on top of the ball joint assembly. While fitting the ball joint, hold it back about 3 mm (1/8 inch), so no contact is made with the lower control arm. New boots come with the ball joint assembly. Install these without the arbor press, just like you would a new boot purchased separately. Set Receiving Cup, Special Tool 6758, onto the sealing boot, line it with the bottom of the cup and push by hand until the boot is pressed firmly against the arm surface. Then, reattach the control arm onto the vehicle.
