When any seat belt or child restraint anchor service is complete, look accordingly at all seat belts, their buckles, the mounts, retractors, tether straps and anchors to be sure all is working well and no damage is noticed. If you notice a belt is damaged, worn, twisted or loose, you should replace it. Make sure you also straighten a twisted belt, tighten any loose fasteners and replace a belt with a damaged buckle or retractor, along with a belt that has a damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Also, discard any child restraint anchor or component it is attached to if it is bent or cracked. Never try to repair a seat belt or child restraints part; bring in the damaged part to be checked by a qualif Instead, lubricate the seat belt and work on the tensioners as a team to remove noises. At the start, put the seat all the way forward, separate the negative battery cable and allow the system capacitor to discharge for two minutes. Remove the bolt cover around the seat base, the belt bolt attaching the seat to your car, the small white screw attaching the plastic cover to the door opening, the plastic cover and the door edge guard. Loosen the bolt that fastens the belt guide to your vehicle, pull the carpet that's above the lower door panel back and detach the seat belt tensioner squib harness connector without touching its pryable connector inside or tugging at the connector wires outside. Unscrew the bolt securing the seat belt tensioner to your vehicle and take the tensioner out. To install the kit, confirm the negative battery cable is not connected and give it two minutes for the capacitor to discharge before you connect it. Attach the seat belt tensioner in the car, install its bolts and tighten them to 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.), before linking the harness connector to the squib of the tensioner, making sure you do not damage the air bag circuits. Assemble the upper belt guide with the bolt, tighten it to 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.), replace the carpet, set the plastic seat belt cover in place, fasten the plastic cover to the door opening, place the door edge guard and secure the bolt on the belt end to the seat, tightened to 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.). Now, place the plastic seat belt bolt cover on the bolt and skip connecting the negative battery cable for now. Wait until after attending to any Supplemental Restraint System component to perform the related verification test procedure.
