Axle Shaft is among the key components of the car, which helps in transmitting the power produced by the differential to the driving wheels. This creates a better wheel spin and better traction especially during cornering which is expected for the sporty car that Chrysler Prowler is. Built out of tough steels like chrome-molybdenum or carbon steel the Prowler Axle Shaft delivers the sturdiness required for high-speed handling. The ability to work with any Prowler model underlining its versatility, contributes to Prowler's effective integration with front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout characteristic for Chrysler Prowler. The Axle Shaft can be distinguished from other products on the market because of the halfshaft, which has splined ends when it comes to power transmittal. To add to the above it also plays a very vital role in improving the safety of the vehicle by providing stability and control of the vehicle. Thus, it can be stated that the reputation of the Axle Shaft proves the principle of the brand Chrysler Magnum, which is based on quality engineering. Due to the fact that it provides smooth and responsive steering, it's an essential part of the Prowler which enables drivers to have the fun of driving while at the same time being assured with the handling of the vehicle. Altogether, the Axle Shaft is a testimony of the car manufacturing company's commitment to delivering unique and high-quality automobile products.

Chrysler Prowler Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Axle Shaft on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
When removing the halfshafts from Prowler models which have a special design, first lift the car on jackstands or a frame contact type hoist. Lift up the halfshaft hub nut, set a jack stand below the rear lower Control Arm, then rest the arm on the jack stand. After that, take out the sway bar mount at the back of the lower control arm, then the bolt and nut from the rear strut. Remove the lock nut that holds the rear lower control arm ball stud, making certain that no other method is used to separate the ball stud from the rear knuckle, as it might cause injury. Unhook the ball stud from the knuckle, lift the knuckle straight up and away from the axle shaft and hold on to the shaft for support. Carefully handle the flinger disk on the hub and bearing when removing the outer CV joint to avoid damaging it, since dirt and water can get through the damaged part and harm the bearings early. Take hold of both the tire and the knuckle and pull until the outer joint comes free from the knuckle and hub. Once you can hold the outer C/V assembly with one hand, use the other hand to steadily rotate it off the splined end of the hub until the C/V has cleared the hub and bearings. Make sure the inner tripod joint is only disengaged from the retaining snap ring on the stub shaft by prying at the tripod joint on the transaxle assembly with a pry bar. Pull the halfshaft inner tripod joint from the transaxle transaxle stub shaft while holding onto the interconnecting shaft and the inner tripod joint, so you don't risk the spider assembly separating from the housing.
  • Q: How to Install an Axle Shaft and Ensure Proper Sealing and Securing of Components on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
During installation, put on the inboard tripod joint retaining circlip and O-ring seal on the transaxle stub shaft, since they are new parts found in all service kits and should not be reused. Begin the process by putting in a new O-ring seal and tripod joint retaining circlip on the transaxle stub shaft. Place a bead of grease over the recessed area in the inner tripod joint where the O-ring belongs to prevent rust and maintain a proper seal as you install it. Hold the powertrain assembly, with the halfshaft in place at the transaxle stub shaft, grasping the inner tripod joint with one hand and the interconnecting shaft with the other and use a gentle rocking motion to push it all the way in, so the seal is hidden. To make sure your inner tripod joint retaining circlip is in place, try to move the tripod after it is locked; if it can't slide, the circlip is in the right place. Watch out not to harm the flinger disk when joining the outer joint to the hub and bearing assembly, as that might result in early bearing damage due to dirt and water within. After engaging the outer joint with the knuckle and hub, pull the tire and outer joint out and put the outer C/V joint into the hub and bearing assembly. Push the ball stud into the space adjacent to the rear knuckle and after that fit and tighten the locknut to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). On the next step, place the rear strut lower mounting bolt and nut and the rear sway bar mount at the lower Control Arm, then take off the screw-type jack stand from underneath. Because the stub shaft retaining nut is a prevailing torque nut and cannot be retightened, you should use a new hub and bearing assembly to install a new nut and tighten it securely-without torquing-for now. Place the vehicle back on the ground, brake the vehicle to keep it steady and tighten the NEW stub shaft to hub and bearing assembly retaining nut to 141 Nm (105 ft. lbs.) so that you do not cause the stub shaft to fracture.
