Chrysler Prowler Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Drive Belt for the Generator, Power Steering, and Air Conditioning on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
Before removing the generator or power steering belt, loose the tensioner pulley nut and move the tensioner adjusting bolt until the belt is accessible. Once the generator/power steering belt is gone, lift the car with a hoist, undo the locking nut on the tensioner pulley and then loosen the adjusting bolt so the belt comes off. Look over the accessory drive belt to verify it's working correctly, not damaged and well tensioned; you should change it if it shows excessive wear, deformed cables or major glazing. Light cracking on the ribbed sides of a Poly-V belt with a back driven pulley is normal, but parallel cracking is not. Set the belt over the drive pulleys and use the Special Tool 7198, Belt Tension Gauge, to check its tension, tightening the belt tensioner adjusting bolt until the correct tautness is achieved and lastly tighten the tensioner pulley locking nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Slide the drive pulleys over the generator/power steering belt, place the back of the belt at the tensioner pulley and tighten the tensioner pulley locking nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Whenever setting up a new air conditioning belt, drive and leave the engine idling for around five minutes to run-in the belt and then re-adjust it to the right tension.
