  How to service and repair an Exhaust Resonator on Chrysler Sebring?

  The exhaust resonator can be serviced and repaired when the exhaust system has cooled, due to the high operating temperature of the exhaust system and a catalytic converter. Initially lift the vehicle on a hoist and coat the band clamps (where present) of the components to be removed with penetrating oil. Next remove muffler/pipe assembly. Then, loosen the band clamp for resonator/pipe assembly and remove it. If you need to get the band clamp replaced, grind off the spot weld that holds it to the exhaust pipe. If I ever need to replace any part of the exhaust system, I only use original equipment parts or their equivalents. This is to ensure proper alignment and acceptable exhaust noise, while also avoiding changes in exhaust system back pressure. An excessive change in exhaust system back pressure may adversely affect emissions, performance, or durability. Begin work on the exhaust system at the front and work towards the rear. Loosely install the resonator/pipe assembly and muffler/pipe assembly before installing support isolators to the muffler supports. Both assemblies shall be aligned and clearance maintained with underbody parts with loading equal on all support isolators. Use a torque wrench to tighten the resonator/pipe assembly band clamp to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and also the muffler/pipe assembly band clamp. In the end, attach the ground strap to the muffler and lower the vehicle.
