Chrysler Voyager CV Boot Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot and CV Joint for Outer on Chrysler Voyager?
    A:
The first step is to take off the half shaft from the vehicle that has the damaged Constant Velocity Joint Boot. Unscrew the big clamp that fixes the sealing boot to the CV joint and discard it, along with the little clamp securing the outer CV joint sealing boot to the shaft. Pull the boot off the housing and down the item joining the two shafts and wipe away excess grease to uncover the retaining ring. To get to the retaining ring, spread the ears apart and take off the outer CV joint and boot by sliding them off the interconnecting shaft. Examine the outer CV joint and interconnecting joint for signs of excessive wear; if anything looks damaged, the half shaft needs to be replaced since parts can't be fixed. Slide first the new small diameter seal over the interconnecting shaft, then insert the new outer CV joint assembly sealing boot over it. Slide the outer CV joint assembly onto the interconnecting shaft and push it until the retaining ring fits securely in its groove. Rub half of the seal grease on the outer CV joint assembly housing and add the other half to the sealing boot. Lay the outer CV joint seal boot retaining clamp over the interconnecting shaft and slide the boot so that just a thin band of the shaft is exposed. Use your crimping tool on the bridge of the clamp and keep twisting the nut until the jaws are fully closed. Check that the boot's seal is not dented or loose; alternatively, use your hands to restore its original shape, even out the edges and make it flat. Move the sealing boot to go into the groove on the outside housing unit, then evenly fit the sealing boot retaining clamp. Use C-4975-A crimping tool on the bridge of the clamp, then turn the nut till the jaws are firmly pressed together. The last step is to reinstall the half shaft that needed a boot onto your car.
