Should you be replacing shoes on both sides of the car, install them on one side and then move on to the second side, before making the final adjustments. Set up the lower return spring (3) and adjuster (5) between the parking brakes (2, 6), so that the inner side of the rear shoe holds the lever while the left-side thread is visible on both adjuster posts. When required, lay the strut's (1) curved side toward the back over the hub and bearing. After that, put the assembled brake shoes (2, 6) along with the adjuster (5) and lower return spring (3) over the hub and bearing onto the support plate and anchor with the strut inside-between the front shoe and the lever on the rear shoe. Pull the end of the
Parking Brake Cable over the lever on the parking brake shoe, place the springs and pins inside and rotate each pin 90° to make sure it is fully engaged. To start, put the front upper return spring (2) on to keep the front brake shoe and anchor pin (3) in place, then repeat with the back upper return spring (2) for the rear of the vehicle. Place your Brake Shoe Gauge C-3919 or its equivalent inside the parking brake portion of the rotor and place the opening in the largest braking surface. Cover the widest area of the parking brake shoes (1) in the adjuster wheel, then adjust the linings so that the gauge (2) is closest to the jaws of the double adjuster. Screw the rear brake rotor (3) into the caliper using two wheel mounting nuts and check that all is aligned properly. To see the adjuster wheel, put the hole (1) on the front of the rotor at the 7 o'clock mark for the left and the 5 o'clock mark for the right. Adjusting the drum-in hat means anything you want, but I'll discuss it in another section. Open up the hole (1) with the rubber plug in the rotor's front so you can make the last adjustments you need, then put the rubber plug back in place after finishing. Lastly, take off the wheels and install new brake rotors (3) as well as any components which were removed to get to it. Lift the vehicle, verify the new brake rotor and press the parking brake lever to do one last cycle.
