The Hood Latch of Dodge Challenger cars performs an important role of locking the hood so that it doesn't open while the car is in use. This component is very crucial to protect some very crucial part of the car such as the engine, the radiator and the battery. In regard to this there is a specific mechanism used in the Dodge Challenger models termed the Hood Latch Mechanism which is employed to seal and secure the hood. Although the use of Hood Latch more or less serves the similar aim in different models, there could be change in the pattern or appearance of the models due to its usage at different time. These variations can be ranging from the level of convenience of using the latch system to the overall efficiency of the system in different models of Dodge Challenger.

Dodge Challenger Hood Latch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Detach a Hood Latch on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
You should first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable to access the hood latch. Open the cover at the headlamp mounting crossmember on the left and work the interlocking part free from the inboard end of the right cover. After that, remove both covers from the car. Place a mark at the location of the hood latch on the front of the headlamp mounting crossmember to make reassembly easier. After that, take out the screws holding the latch to the front of the crossmember. Withdraw the latch off the front of the crossmember sufficiently to remove the hood latch cable from inside the housing and from the latch lever. At the end, take off the hood latch and move it out of the way.
  • Q: How to Install a Hood Latch and Ensure It Works Properly on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
For installation, place the hood latch by the front of the headlamp crossmember to run the release cable through the latch lever. Then, fit the latch to the front of the crossmember and attach and tighten its two screws to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Move the latch arm up or down until the ignition works smoothly. After that, put the right underhood appearance cover over the headlamp mounting crossmember and use your hands to press it down until all the integral clips securely snap in place. Match the interlocking feature on the left appearance cover with the right cover's inboard piece and lift everything onto the headlamp mounting crossmember until each clip attaches. In the end, go ahead and reconnect the negative end of the battery. When the Automatic Express Up feature is installed in a vehicle, the power window system will need to be recalibrated if power to the door module is interrupted.
