To service and repair the inner tie rod, first install the travel restrictor with the beveled lip side outward on the end of the rack gear, ensuring it is flush with the end. Apply Mopar(R) Lock & Seal Adhesive or an equivalent medium thread locker adhesive to the inboard end threads of the inner tie rod. Use the appropriate inner tie rod installer tool or a crows foot wrench on the hex to install the inner tie rod onto the gear, tightening it to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Loosely place a new clamp over the large end of the bellows, then slide the new bellows with the clamp over the end of the inner tie rod and onto the gear body. Push the small end of the bellows past the groove machined into the inner tie rod. Apply a small amount of Mopar(R) Lubriplate or an equivalent lubricant uniformly to the groove in the inner tie rod shaft to facilitate toe adjustment without twisting the bellows. Pull the small end of the bellows outward until the ridge inside engages the groove, then install a new clamp over the small end of the bellows. Use crimping pliers to crimp the bellows clamp at the gear body. If the vehicle is equipped with All-Wheel-Drive and the heat shield was removed, install the heat shield above the inner tie rod bellows and tighten the screws to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Finally, thread the tie rod jam nut onto the inner tie rod far enough to install the outer tie rod.

The Dodge Charger Tie Rod is a part of the steering linkage that transmits motion from the steering gear to the steering knuckles so the front wheels can turn, responding to driver input. The Tie Rod connects to the rack and pinion or other steering gear to the wheel assemblies and converts the rotational movement of the steering wheel into a lateral movement that causes the knuckles on the Charger to pivot.
