The Brake Booster in Dodge Dakota vehicles is critical in the increase of the brake system force through the reduction of the driver effort. Sits between the brake pedal and the master cylinder, it uses either vacuum or hydraulic means to actuate the force exerted on the brakes. Vacuum-operated boosters are those boosters that function by applying a difference of engine vacuum pressure and atmospheric pressure on the brake pedal whereas hydraulic boosters are those boosters that make use of the pressure fluid derived from the power steering pump or from the electric assembly indeed. Throughout the production years of the Dodge Dakota, the Brake Booster utilized has been of different types, single/dual diaphragm, it comes in different diameters and different finishes. In general, larger diameter boosters create more support, however, the dual diaphragm boosters are able to deliver similar help even if the engine compartment is more compact. This versatility enables the caliper to provide the optimal braking whereby the Dodge Dakota vehicle is either fitted with the disc or drum brakes.

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Before you begin service or repair, take out the master cylinder and remove the vacuum lines from the booster. Still working at the brake pedal, take out the clip between the booster push rod and the brake pedal and then remove the nuts on the booster mounting studs. Take apart the front cowl panel and remove the booster, spacer and gaskets. To install, set the spacers and gaskets onto the booster studs, slide the studs into the holes in the cowl panel and settle the booster onto the panel. Screw each of the booster attachment nuts tight to a torque of 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) and place the booster push rod into the lever on the brake pedal and use the clip to secure it. If the booster check valve is missing, attach it and join the vacuum hose to the valve before fitting the master cylinder. Afterward, fill and bleed the brakes.
