    How to install and replace the rear Brake Shoe Set on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
    To begin, clean each component of the brake and inspect it to remove and replace the rear brake shoes. Apply high temperature grease or Lubriplate wherever the brake shoe contacts the support plate, and grease or Lubriplate the adjuster screw socket, nut, button and screw thread surfaces. The parking brake lever is mounted on the rear shoe and secured with its hold down clip. After that, install the adjuster strut on the shoes and parking brake lever. Place the front shoe on the support plate, and secure it using the hold down clip. Put the adjuster spring and lever(4) in the slot of the adjuster strut(7), and fix the lower return spring(1) to the shoes(3). To check the adjuster operation, pull the shoes both outward so that the adjuster lever is moved and engages with the star wheel teeth. Use brake gauge to adjust brake shoes to drum and install wheel and tire assembly.

    The rear brake shoes can be removed and replaced after raising and supporting the vehicle and removing the wheel and tire assembly. Remove the clip nuts which hold the brake drum to the wheel studs and take off the brake drum. In case the drum cannot be easily removed, reach the supporting plate's rear plug and disengage the self-adjusting mechanism by inserting a small screwdriver into the access hole, which enables the user to push the lever away from the adjuster star wheel. After that, an adjuster tool may be used to rotate the star wheel to retract the brake shoes. Using a vacuum, clean the brake parts to remove brake lining dust. Then, use a brake spring plier tool to remove the shoe return spring Part No. 3. Next, the adjuster spring and lever Part No. 5 can be removed by sliding the lever forward to clear the pivot and working it out from under the spring. Disconnect and detach the return spring of the shoe 1 from the brake shoes 3; take off the brake shoe hold down clips 6. Remove the brake shoe 7 from the support plate 9. Remove the brake shoe 8 from the support plate 9. Remove the park brake lever, part number 2 from the brake shoe.
