In Dodge Dakota automobiles the EGR Valve regulates the circulation of the exhaust gases to the combustion chambers with the primary purpose of decreasing emissions. This is called Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) whereby some exhaust gas is drawn back into the cylinder to reduce the combustion temperature and consequently nitr. Development of EGR technology has progressed from single orifice jets to sophisticated valves that run on engine conditions. At present, some modern engines that are out in the market, such as the Chrysler Pentastar 3.6, do not hold EGR assembly; however, it continues to be a requirement when it comes to compliance with emissions standards and even enhancing the engine's performance as well. Some parts may need to be attended to from time to time, for instance, the EGR valves may get congested and may require cleaning or replacement to standard.

Dodge Dakota EGR Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the EGR Valve and Solenoid Assembly from the Engine on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
The electronic EGR valve and solenoid assembly has been mounted on the rear of the left-hand cylinder head. You should start by removing the EVAP purge solenoid by pushing it out of the tongue-type bracket. A tube links the EGR valve with the Intake Manifold; take out the two mounting bolts, then pull the tube from the solenoid and guide the other end out of the intake manifold. After that, take out the gasket between the EGR valve solenoid and the tube flange. Unplug the solenoid from the wiring and remove the two bolts holding it in place to grab the solenoid. After that, get rid of and throw away the gasket found directly under the EGR solenoid.
  • Q: How to install an EGR Valve on a 3.7L Engine on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Before attaching the EGR valve, clean around the gasket at the back of the left cylinder head and around the EGR tube where it meets the EGR valve on a 3.7L engine. After that, set a new gasket between the EGR valve and the cylinder head and position the valve over the head, attaching it with two bolts and tightening them to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Once done, attach a gasket between the EGR tube flange and the EGR valve assembly, route the EGR tube to the side of the valve and fit its end into the Intake Manifold using the bolts and tightening both to 11 Nm (8.5 ft. lbs.). Hook the electrical connector to the top of the EGR valve solenoid, insert the EVAP canister purge solenoid onto the bracket and finally reattach the negative Battery Cable. After that, scan the car using a diagnostic scan tool to delete all the DTC's that were previously stored.
