Begin thermal housing service by lowering the coolant level in the system slightly, making sure any coolant you use is caught in a neat container. Always reach for tools designed for constant tension hose clamps, notably the special clamp tool (number 6094) or the Snap-On clamp tool (number HPC-20) and keep safety glasses on at all times. Should you need to use new clamps, be sure to install original ones that match the numbers or letters found on the existing ones. If your vehicle does not have air conditioning, open both clamps, remove the hose and go ahead with installation by attaching the clamps, installing the hose, filling the cooling system and searching for leaks after heating up the engine. For automobiles with air conditioning, connect the battery to a charger, run the engine and wait until the A/C compressor is warm. You must first take out the
Drive Belt idler pulley to reach the bolts holding the A/C compressor/generator bracket.
Throttle Cables, heater hose and coolant return tube removed, raise the generator and A/C compressor assembly so you can reach the bypass hose. Place the bypass hose clamps, secure the hose and reattach the generator-A/C mounting bracket assembly, fastening all the bolts to the correct torque. Change the O-ring on the heater hose coolant return tube, plug in the throttle body control cables and mount the remaining pieces while you check the cooling system and look for any leaks after starting and running the engine.
