Before taking out the transmission shifter, disconnect the negative battery cable. Take out the defroster cover by inserting a trim stick into a hole. After that, take out the screws in the center stack cover and remove the cover itself. Pull back on the center stack and remove the ignition switch bezel from under the panel cover. If the car has knee blocks and a cover over the instrument panel, take them off as well. Remove the cluster bezel as well as the shift knob. Unplug the electrical connections from the WIN and shifter, then take out the screws at the WIN to reach the lower bolts on the shifter. Press the lock tab at the shifter housing down before you pull the cable out. Unplug the shift cable from the shifter and then get rid of the mounting bolts before you can remove the shifter.
