  Q: How to Maintain a Fuel Injector on Dodge Intrepid?

  Before working on the fuel injector, you should first reduce the pressure in the fuel system and take the battery's negative cable off. After removing the mounting bolts, lift the intake manifold plenum off the engine carefully, making sure to protect it with a cover so bits of material don't get inside. At the rear end of the manifold, unplug the fuel supply tube quick connect fittings and tag the injector connectors if they don't already have cylinder numbers on them. Release the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors, after that unbolt the rail from the cylinder head and lift it straight off. Remove all the retaining clips you find and then remove the fuel injectors. Lightly coat the O-rings around the fuel injectors with clean engine oil, insert the injectors and secure them with clips while pressing them tightly into the rail. Put the Fuel Rail over the cylinder head and slide it in, attaching it with the bolts at 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque. Connect the fuel supply quick connect fittings at the back of the intake manifold, secure the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors, put in place the intake manifold plenum and at the end, reattach the negative cable to the battery.

  You should release pressure in the fuel system and take out the negative battery cable before servicing the fuel injector. Take out the mounting bolts to remove the Intake Manifold plenum after it is free; protect the intake manifold to avoid dirt from moving in. Take off the quick connect fittings that the fuel supply tube connects to at the rear of the intake manifold. When the injector connector labels do not show the cylinder numbers, mark them with the numbers for easier identification. Take out the fuel injector connectors as well as the Fuel Rail mounting bolts and gently raise the fuel rail up off the cylinder head, keeping it straight. Once the clips are gone, take out the fuel injectors one by one by repeating this step on all the injectors. If the injector O-rings have damage, replace them and if the injector clips are also damaged, put new ones in as well. Use just a few drops of clean engine oil on the O-rings of the fuel injectors, then fit them into place and attach them using retaining clips. Press the injectors into the fuel rail until the clips snaps in place. See that the fuel rail is placed over the cylinder head, then push it ready and tighten its mounting bolts with 11 Nm (100 in lb.) torque. Connect the fuel supply tubes to the quick connect fittings at the rear of the intake manifold and attach the electrical wire to the fuel injectors. Then, put in place the intake manifold plenum and attach the negative cable back to the battery.
