  Q: How to Remove and Install a Drive Belt on Dodge Magnum?

  Before you remove the drive belt, remove the negative cable from the battery. Turn the tensioner counterclockwise to where it touches its end, remove the belt and then rotate it back to its freearm position. Make sure all pulleys are in good shape and the serpentine accessory drive belt is in the proper position to avoid the Water Pump turning incorrectly and overheating the engine. Install the new belt around all the pulleys except for the idler pulley, then turn the tensioner arm until it hits its stop position, guide the belt around the idler and let the tensioner press gently into the belt seat on all pulleys. There is an indexing tang at the back of the tensioner and an indexing stop on the housing; when installing a new belt, place the tang so it is about 6 - 8 mm (0.24 - 0.32 inch) from the indexing stop with the new belt being one that has worked for less than 15 minutes. Don't forget to check the belt wear indicator.

  Beforeiredrive belt service, disconnect the negative Battery Cable from the battery. Loosen the Belt Tensioner, clockwise, till it touches its stop, lift out the belt and slowly turn it clockwise until it reaches the empty position. As you put on the new belt, inspect every pulley and place the belt properly so no incorrect pump movement overheats the engine. Go around all pulleys with the new belt, except the idler, then move the tensioner arm so it touches its stop, put the belt around the idler and have the tensioner rotate in and fit over all of the pulleys. For new belt installation, the indexing tang should be within 6 - 8 mm (0.24 - 0.32 inch) of the indexing stop on the housing. If you haven't worn a belt for 15 minutes or less, it is still considered new. When the drive belt is installed, take a moment to look at the belt wear indicator.
