To reach the water pump, empty the cooling system, remove the fan from the radiator and then detach the accessory
Drive Belt, since the belt drives the water pump via the main
Timing Chain. Following that, take out the timing chain and all the chain guides and remove the two bolts holding water pump 1 in place before removing the pump itself with its gasket. Check the pump for signs of damage, cracks, glycol deposits near the primary passage or breakages in the secondary weep holes that may show a clog in the primary weep. It's important to also inspect inside the cylinder block for impeller rubbing and possible rough or loose movement of the bearings. The presence of a small amount of coolant draining in the primary weep hole is normal, but if there is a large leak or continuous flow, you must replace the water pump because this points to a shaft seal failure. When coolant leaves the secondary weep passage, clear away any debris in the primary one. To install the system, clean all the sealing areas, fit water pump 1 together with its gasket and secure everything by fastening the mounting bolts to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Now, place the timing chain guides and timing chain back, as well as the accessory drive belts and radiator fan assembly and fill the cooling system last.
