The Ball Joint in Dodge Neon vehicles is the link that enables the connection of the control arms to the steering knuckles with the aim of allowing the suspension to move as well as control the steering mechanism. The element is useful when it comes to the relative fore-and-aft and vertically movement which is important when it comes to the variety of the road condition and request from the driver. Frequently made of steel, the Dodge Neon Ball Joint consists of a ball stud accommodated in a socket shaped component covered by a rubber shield to shield it from dust and dirt and hold the lubricant. Loaded Ball Joints are responsible for supporting the weight of Dodge Neon vehicles while Unloaded Ball Joints are responsible for maintaining the vehicles' alignment in absence of load-bearing support. Ball Joints have been of many types used in different cars and years and there are performance Ball Joints with adjustable capabilities for modified suspensions. Small wear and tear often causes problems for example noise and misalignment, thus it needs to be replaced frequently to enhance safety of handling and longevity of the tires.

Dodge Neon Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Ball Joint Seal Boot on Dodge Neon?
    A:
First, pull the vehicle's Steering Knuckle away to service and repair the lower ball joint seal boot. Lift the seal boot free from the ball joint with a suitable tool such as a screwdriver. Clean the grease that has collected around the ball joint stem. To protect the Control Arm from heat, the upward lip of the new sealing boot should protrude outwards from the boot as it's placed. Make certain that the bullet cap crown points up and out as you slip the boot over the ball joint stem. Use your hand to put the sealing boot onto the side of the ball joint. Line Position Installer, Special Tool 6758, across the ring on the outside of the seal boot and push it down firmly on top of the lower control arm until the boot is pushed straight against the top. Exchange the headless grease fitting for a typical zirc-type grease fitter, keeping the other one for a later replacement. It is necessary to lubricate the ball joint before putting the steering knuckle back on, so that venting takes place from the seal as it is filled. Fill the ball joint seal boot with Mopar Multi-Mileage Lube or of the same brand, pushing grease out past the stem. When this happens, keep wiping grease back into the boot until any excess is cleaned up. Remove the standard zirc-type grease fitting and set the ball joint back to using the headless grease fitting which prevents more lubrication.
