The Control Arm of Dodge Neon vehicles play the role of translating movement of the suspension system between the vehicle's frame and its wheels. This component enables the wheels to turn in response to road interchange capability that is a quality that will enable the wheels to remain well aligned because of the turning so as to enhance safety. In the Dodge Neon models used lower control arms that may be made from metals such as stamped steel, cast iron, or even cast aluminum each of which has difference strength and mass. Today, Dodge Neon vehicle has manufactured different control arms over the years with some designed for performance use and with sturdier designs. These performance control arms are commonly fabricated from DOM tubular steel or aluminum for better capacity in terms of stress produced when driven hard. Furthermore, handling is made precise by employing enhanced bushings, materials for instance, polyurethane, or Delrin. In general the Dodge Neon control arm plays a significant role within suspension system of the vehicle to maintain stability and maneuverability on roads.

Dodge Neon Control Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the lower control arm on Dodge Neon?
    A:
Before taking out the lower control arm, lift and support the vehicle, then undo the wheel mounting nuts and take off the tire and wheel assembly. To remove each stabilizer bar link assembly, grab the upper retainer/nut with a wrench and keep turning the link bolt. Lower the front ends of the stabilizer bar and loosen the retainer bolts if they still need to be unfastened. Take the nut and bolt clamping the stud to the knuckle, but do not pull outward on the knuckle to protect the inner C/V joint. Use a suitable prying tool to loosen the stud on the ball joint. Simply press down on the lower control arm, then up against the boss on the ball joint portion of the knuckle. If you are replacing the left control arm, take out the fastener holding the wheel house splash shield to the drive belt splash shield and if more are added, remove those securing the front fascia to reach the drive belt splash shield fastener. After that, take out the fasteners that secure the drive belt splash shield to the front suspension crossmember, to the body and then remove the splash shield itself. Loosen and remove the mounting nuts from the mounting bolt, then remove the pencil strut from the right front corner of the crossmember and body. Lastly, take out the washer behind the strut bolt of the torque strut. Take out the bolt connecting the engine torque strut to the engine, then the bolt connecting it to the crossmember and so forth the engine torque strut. After that, free the front and rear bolts joining the lower control arm to the front suspension crossmember and frame rail and bump the lower control arm off the crossmember.
  • Q: How is a Ball Joint Installed in the Lower Control Arm on Dodge Neon?
    A:
Make sure the notch on the Ball Joint stud is next to the lower control arm's front isolator bushing as you install the ball joint into its hole. Begin the procedure by putting the ball joint into the bore of the lower control arm with the right angle, to help avoid anything binding later. Support the lower control arm using Special Tool 6758 and ensure you are turning the arm upside down, matching the ball joint stud to the Installer's cup. Take the bigger part of Special Tool 6804 and set it on the ball joint. Then, press the ball joint into the lower control arm until the shoulder comes up against the bore. After taking out the old seal, fix a new one, making sure the upward lip protects the heat. Apply Special Tool 6758 on the seal boot and push down against the lower control arm before you remove the tool. Should you not have an existing zirc grease fitting, add it now and lubricate using Mopar Multi-Mileage Lube or a similar product until grease comes from the stem. Exchange the conventional zirc grease fitting for a headless one from the ball joint to solve possible lubrication problems. Be careful to keep the new fitting and the bit clean when assembling. First, do not let the Special Tool C-4212F set screw stick into the cup area and manually thread on the rear isolator bushing so the larger void is facing the ball joint. Screw Special Tool 9356-1 onto the end of the press drive, align the bottom control arm flange with the cup area and tighten the tool until the Installer makes contact with the bushing outer edge, placing the flange correctly. Tighten the screwdriver little by little until the bushings touch the wall inside the bore without overtightening and then back off the screwdriver before removing the control arm from the press.
