Before removing the shifter assembly, you should first take out any console parts that keep the shift lever assembly and shifter cables from being reached. Shift the car into PARK before starting any step. After that, break the transmission shift cable at the lever and at the shifter assembly bracket, then remove the park-interlock cable from the shifter lever and the bracket on the shifter assembly. After that, remove the wiring connectors from the shifter assembly. Next, take all nuts affixed to the shifter assembly from the car's floor pan and pull out the unit.

How to Install an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Nitro?

Align the shifter assembly with the studs along the floor pan and then tighten the assembly by installing the nuts to 28 Nm (250 in.lbs.). After that, link the harness to the mounting position on the shifter and attach any removed wire connections. Insert the park-interlock cable into the shifter assembly bracket and shifter lever and then fit the shift cable to the bracket so that it is pushed in tightly. Park the shifter, take out the adjustment screw from the shift cable and simply snap the cable to the pin on the shift lever. After you put the shift lever into PARK, tighten the adjustment screw with 7 Nm (65 in.lbs.) of force. Confirm that everything is working correctly, pmove the shift lever and cables back to their original place and then reattach any removed console parts.
