Dodge Nitro Shift Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Shift Cable on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Before getting rid of the shift interlock cable, lower the Steering Column. In the "RUN" position, push the park-interlock tab toward you right above the cable connection at the steering column and draw the cable straight out. After that, disconnect the park-interlock cable from the steering column and remove the floor console and related trim. Remove the park-interlock cable (3) from the shift lever assembly and remove it from the shifter assembly bracket. Remove the park-interlock cable from all clips and lastly take it out of your vehicle.
  • Q: How to Install the Shift Cable for Park-Interlock on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
The first thing to do when installing the park-interlock cable is to check and adjust the gearshift cable. Fit the back end of the park-interlock cable straight into the square hole in the Steering Column and make sure it snaps right in. Snap the end of the park-interlock cable tie strap into the hole in the tube on the steering column, as well. Thread the cable to the place where the shifter sits and then install the cable end fitting onto the lever (1). Snap each adjuster ear into the floor shifter bracket, put the ignition key cylinder in the LOCK position and then push down on the adjuster lock clamp to secure everything. Stage one is to check the park-interlock cable; next, install the console and all associated trims.
