Drive Shaft as a complex mechanical system in the Dodge Nitro cars transmits mechanical power and torque necessary for proper functioning of the car from the engine or the transmission to the drive wheels. This component should be able to support torsion and shear stress and at the same time it has to be as light as possible to minimize inertia. The Dodge Nitro comes equipped with a sturdy Drive Shaft which consist of Universal joints or Splined joints so as to overcome the problem of alignment differences between the engine crankshaft and the rear axle assembly. There are Discrepancies in the form of Dodge Nitro Drive Shafts which people may come across in the market, and they include the single shaft and the double shaft. This is important since different types of Drive Shaft affect performance and safety especially in situations where the application is in 4 wheel and all wheel drives which require several Drive Shafts to deliver power appropriately between the front and rear differentials. All together, the assembly of Drive Shaft guarantees powerful transfer of force throughout the Dodge Nitro as well as solid stability while driving.

Dodge Nitro Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Drive Shaft on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
First, wipe all the bolts for the drive/propeller shaft, then apply the Mopar(R) Lock & Seal Adhesive or an alternative product to their threads. After this, secure the propeller shaft with the reference mark on the axle flange matching the shaft flange. Just as with the engine, make sure the reference mark is in line with the propeller shaft flange. After that, place the propeller shaft bolts in the axle flange and tighten them to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). After that, put in the transmission/transfer case bolts and tighten them up to the recommended specification of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
  • Q: How to Remove the Drive Shaft on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
You should place the car in neutral and lift it with a hoist before taking out the propeller shaft. Put a line across the axle flange and propeller shaft flange for installation alignment and also do the same on the transfer/transmission case flange and propeller shaft flange. Then, unscrew the propeller shaft flange bolts from the axle flange and then unscrew them from the transmission/transfer case flange. After that, unbolt the propeller shaft and remove it.
