To service and repair the parking brake backing plate, first remove the wheel and tire assembly. Then, remove the disc brake caliper, caliper adapter, rotor, and axle shaft. The next step is to extract the park brake shoes and remove the parking brake cable from the brake lever. Take off support plate after removing two bolts fastening the support plate to the axle. To install, place the support plate on the axle flange and tighten the attaching bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs) for LD or 203 Nm (150 ft. lbs) for HD. After reconnecting the parking brake cable to the brake lever, install the park brake shoes and axle shaft. Using a brake gauge, adjust the drum to brake shoes, followed by installing the rotor, caliper adapter, caliper and finally, wheel and tire assembly.
