You should raise and support the vehicle before trying to remove the rear bumper. After that, take off the license plate and remove the bolts that are behind it. After that, remove the two bolts placed along the front upper edge of the bumper close to where the bumper meets the frame. Lift the bumper on its supporting device and remove the bolts that hold the bumper brackets to the trailer hitch.

Unscrew the bolts holding the bumper support brackets on the trailer hitch. When putting in the bumper, make sure the holes are lined up with the trailer hitch pins and attach the bumper. Relax the hitch bolts in the support bracket, add the front upper edge to the bolts and tighten them so the torque is 54 N.m (40 ft.lbs.). Fix the license plate reinforcement onto the hitch bolts and tighten them to 54 N.m (40 ft.lbs.). Tighten both left and right bumper bracket bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft.lbs.). When the trailer has a wiring connector, start with that, then connect the license plate lights, before lastly reattaching the license plate.
