Two bearing types exist and they cannot be used the same way, therefore the same type must be installed. Remove the propeller shaft from the unit at back, take out the slip joint boot clamp and split the two half-shafts. Tap the slinger away from the shaft with a hammer and punch so that the bearing splitter will fit. Place Position Bearing Splitter Tool 1130 over both the slinger and the shaft, protecting the shaft spline as you remove the driveshaft center support bearing. Place the shaft in a press, then press the bearing to remove it from the shaft. To install, place a new slinger on the shaft and use the correct installer tool to drive it in place. Put the Bearing Installer Tool 6052 on the shaft and drive in the new driveshaft center support bearing with a hammer until it's in place. Clean the splines on the shaft and then add a small amount of multipurpose grease. After lining up the master splines, insert the front and rear half-shafts into each other, correctly place the slip yoke boot again and fasten a new clamp before fitting the propeller shaft back.
