First, you should elevate and stabilize the car before you work on the rear cross-member. Should your vehicle have one, take off the transfer case skid plate. Use a transmission jack or some other secure lifting device to aid the removal process. Take off the transmission mount nuts on 2WD vehicles. After that, remove the bolts and take out the crossmember. Take out the mount nuts first, then remove both the bolts and crossmember from a 4WD vehicle.

Install the rear cross-member on Light Duty Vehicles by fitting the crossmember (2) and bolts (4) and tighten each bolt to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). After that, attach the transmission mount nuts and turn them until they are tightened to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). On Heavy Duty Vehicles, put in the crossmember and tighten the bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.), then also install the transmission mount nuts and tighten them to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
