Begin by parking the car in PARK and lifting it on jacks. Take the cable eyelet off the shift lever and draw the cable adjuster out of its mount. Drop the gearbox and detach the insulated panel over the dash to get the boot end of the grommet out of the panel. Unless the trim is needed, strip it away so you can access the cable, release the BTSI wiring connector, cut the lower column bracket cable and bring it into the vehicle from the dash opening. Take the gearshift cable out from the vehicle. To install the cable, run its transmission end through the opening in the dash panel and push the cable grommet into this opening. Clamp the cable into the bracket on the steering column so the retaining ears lock into place and cover the cable eyelet over the ball stud on the shift lever. Raise the vehicle again, put the manual shift lever into PARK and turn the propeller shaft to make sure the transmission is in PARK. Send the gearshift cable via the transmission mounting bracket and fasten the cable using the cable retaining ears fitted into the bracket and the manual shift lever ball stud. Drop the transmission from high to low, then pin the cable adjuster lock tab downward until you hear it lock into place, check that the transmission range sensor operates properly and modify the gearshift cable and BTSI mechanism as needed.
