Dodge Ram 1500 TPMS Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a TPMS Sensor on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
Before installing the Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor, replace seal 2 and metal washer 1 down at the base of the sensor valve stem 6. Carefully clean the place where the mounting hardware for wheel 5's sensor/valve will go, so you can see if the wheel is undamaged. Gently apply pressure to the back of metal valve stem 2 so it won't be damaged while the sensor is inserted into the wheel. Press the pressed-in washer into sensor nut 3 and, before tightening, make sure sensor housing 2 is flush with the wheel's interior by hand using pushing motion. Make sure to stop the sensor nut from turning as soon as enough torque is applied, as a tiny bit too much can make the sensor break away from the valve stem. For rotating wheel changers, make sure the sensor valve stem 2 is 280° from the changer head and, for rotating tool changers, make sure it is 210° clockwise from the end facing the tool, making sure the sensor stays above the lower bead breaker. Use the information on the Tire Inflation Pressure Label to adjust air pressure, making sure the original style valve stem cap is properly in place. Attach the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle, take out the support and drop the vehicle to the ground. The WIN can be programmed with the new sensor ID by using the TPM-RKE Analyzer, 9936, with the Scan Tool or the new sensor can be recognized after driving the vehicle for at least 10 minutes with a continuous speed over 15 mph (24 km/h) that follows 20 minutes of the vehicle standing still. If a sensor does not respond to training, turn to the proper diagnostic details.
