How to service the 8-1/4 and 9-1/4 LD Axle Shaft Seal and bearing on Dodge Ram 1500 Van?

The initial action for 8-1/4 and 9-1/4 LD axle seal and bearing service is to take out the axle shaft. Now, slide a small pry bar into the opening at the axle tube's end and remove the axle seal. The seal and bearing can both be removed at the same moment if you use the bearing removal tool. Then, take out the axle shaft bearing from the axle tube using adapter foot 6310-9 and bearing removal tool 6310. During your installation, use a new axle shaft seal rather than the original. Remove all sealer and burrs from the axle tube bore when cleaning it. Place a C-4171 handle near the top of the axle and insert a C-4198 installer tool below the 3-84 socket with the C-4198 tip going up into the axle shaft. After removing the old seal, put a new axle seal on with the C-4076-B installer and the C-4735-1 handle, making certain that the tool touches the axle tube for the correct depth. Use a thin layer of axle lubricant on the seal lip to prevent damage. Install the new axle shaft.
