  Service and repairs can be done on the radiator fan after removing the negative battery cable. At first, take out the plastic air cleaner tube and both parts of the fan shroud. Replace the fan gear assembly by turning the mounting nut clockwise with Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (SP346) and Tool 6958 spanner while preventing the pulley from rotating using Adapter Pins 8346. It is important not to try to unbolt the fan blade assembly from the viscous fan drive at this time. Be sure to stand the thermal viscous fan drive upright after removing it, so that silicone from the fan housing doesn't contaminate the roller bearing lubricant below. After that, remove the four bolts holding the fan blade assembly to the viscous fan drive. Rinse the blades with mild soap and clean water, but don't use anything that is rough on them. Look at the fan unit for cracks, bends, loose rivets or damaged welding and if you see any, change out the fan. Should the fan blade assembly need to be replaced due to damage, check the water pump and viscous fan drive for harm caused by too much vibration. When the thermal viscous fan drive is removed, place it in a position so silicone fluid does not reach the bearing assembly. After that, remove the four bolts holding the fan blade assembly to the viscous fan drive. Clean the fan blades using a mix of mild soap and water; don't use any harsh scrubbing brushes. Check the assembly carefully for damaged rivets, any misshapes, bends, cracking or cracks that might be caused by broken welds and change the fan if damage is found. If you exchange the fan blade assembly because it is damaged, be sure to inspect the water pump and viscous fan drive for possible harm from too much vibration.
