Ensuring no accidental air bag deployment can lead to injury should be your main priority before starting work on vehicles with air bags. Disconnect and isolate the negative
Battery Cable right away. Slide under the instrument panel, near the driver side of the tunnel on the floor and unplug the harness from the heater-A/C control to the heater-A/C housing. Before removing the instrument panel, unhook the retainer on the heater-A/C part of the vacuum harness from the hole in the center duct. Get rid of the cluster bezel within the instrument panel. Thereafter, unscrew the four screws holding the heater-A/C control to the instrument panel and put the assembly aside so you can access the back of its connections. Pull the wire harness connector out from the back of the heater-A/C control and if you have them, remove the connectors for any heated mirrors as well. Take away the heater-A/C control from the navigation system view. To install, insert the wire harness connector(s) into the receptacles on the rear of the heater-A/C control, place the heater-A/C vacuum harness into the opening in the reinforcement beneath the control, then anchor the control in the instrument panel with four screws set to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). After tightening the cluster bezel, work underneath the panel to secure the heater-A/C control vacuum harness retainer on the side of the center distribution duct, then attach the connector to secure the two halves of the heater-A/C control to heater-A/C housing vacuum harness. To change out the heater-A/C control knobs, fully rotate the control knob, hold it tightly and pull it straight out, following the opposite steps to fix in place.
