Off all electrical accessories and switch the ignition to Off position before checking or fixing the battery cables. The negative cable on gasoline engines should have its terminal and attached bolts disconnected and isolated from the battery, left front fender and the engine. Remove all battery cable clips, pushpins and fasteners as you go, until you have disconnected all the wires from the car. To service the positive cable on gasoline engines, first isolate the negative cable, unfasten the positive cable clamp, remove the nut holding the cable to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) and take apart the wire harness connectors from the TIPM. Lift the car up, take off the retaining pins on the cable on the left rail, remove the nut from the starter solenoid, lower the car, raise up the terminal cap and remove the nut joining the cable to the
Alternator. Also, remove any outstanding pushpins and take out the battery cable at its positive end. In the case of a diesel engine, the process involves turning off the ignition, separating the negative cables one at a time and taking our the bolts that hold the cable to the indicated area under the fender, engine and frame, while also removing connector pushpins and fasteners. To deal with the positive cables on diesel engines, first clip the negative cable terminal, next remove the nut from the positive right battery terminal at the left terminal clamp and last, disconnect the terminal. Raise the vehicle, take out the bolt that holds the cable to the engine, lift the cover on the terminal to remove the nut that holds the cable to the starter solenoid, lower it and follow and take off the retaining pushpins and fasteners until you release the cable. Afterwards, remove the battery's positive cable from the car.
