The engine oil pan can be removed by disconnecting the negative
Battery Cable and presenting support fixture # 8534 near the engine without lifting it high. When working on a 2WD vehicle, remove both of the through bolts holding the
Engine Mount to the frame. For 4WD vehicles, unbolt both left-right side engine mount brackets and remove lower screws, being aware that the upper engine bracket hole is not solid. Subsequently, take out the structural dust cover and drain all the engine oil. Raise the engine just high enough so the oil pan can easily be taken off, always watching for good clearance between the fan shroud, fan and cowl to
Intake Manifold. Raise the engine with tool # 8534 in order to remove the oil pan. Take off the transmissions mount bolts from the transmission to the crossmember. Then, with a suitable, carefully raise the transmission about 3 inches from the crossmember. Do not remove or touch the oil pan or oil pan gasket, because the gasket stays with the engine windage tray and must not be touched. Follow the listed sequence to remove the bolts from the oil pan and get rid of the oil pan and be sure to keep the double-ended oil pan studs in their original spots. Take out the oil pump pickup tube by unwinding the clip holding it in place. The old gasket cannot be reinstalled, so a new gasket/windage tray assembly must be inserted and the integral windage tray and gasket should both be thrown away and replaced.
