Dodge Ram 2500 Van Antenna Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the radio antenna on Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
    A:
Start by disconnecting and separating the battery's negative cable before any work. Get rid of the end cap on the passenger side of the instrument panel and roll down the glove box. Connect the antenna coaxial cable by fixing the metal parts together instead of pulling on the cable to do so. Lift the retainer from the instrumental panel end connection of the antenna end of the coaxial cable and then slide the other end of the connector into the small opening under the dashboard. Shove the antenna coaxial cable grommet through the opening in the dash into the cowl plenum area and take away the cowl plenum cover from the cowl top near the bottom of the windshield. Unscrew the antenna mast from the antenna body and then take off the antenna cap nut with wrench part C-4816. Unscrew the antenna adapter from the top of the fender and drop the antenna and cable through the mounting hole in the fender's top. After working the antenna body and cable through the opening in the right end of the plenum, lift and remove these from the cowl plenum. While installing, insert the antenna body and its coaxial cable into the cowl plenum, insert the coaxial cable grommet through the hole in the dash panel and seat the grommet. Push the antenna body into the opening at the top of the fender, place the adapter on it and hold the antenna with the C-4816 antenna nut wrench when tightening the antenna cap nut to 7.3 Nm (65 in. lbs.). Lift the antenna mast into position on the antenna, tighten it to 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.) and place the cowl plenum cover/grille panel on top of the antenna. Through the glove box, place the wire's antenna section into the gap between the vehicle dash and the right instrument panel, bolt the cock of the antenna wire to the instrument panel, then resolder the antenna cable split again. Afterward, fix the glove box and end cap onto the instrument panel and join the battery negative wire. The instrument panel end of the antenna coaxial cable is taken from the right end bracket to the radio and placed in a plastic trough right alongside the vehicle's wiring harness and all these are secured to the instrument panel armature.
