  Before you start, ensure the vehicle is lifted, in neutral and the transmission is set neutral. Commence by taking off the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully take off the brake drum. Remove any outside dirt from the cover area, loosen the bolts on the housing cover and allow the unit to drain. Take out the pinion mate shaft lock screw by turning the differential case and removes the pinion mate shaft too. Pierce the axle shaft to remove the C-lock and very carefully extract the axle shaft so the bearing and seal inside the tube are not damaged. Look for leaks or damage on the axle shaft seal; then check the roller bearing contact surface on the shaft for signs of brinelling, galling or pitting. If any problems are detected, change either the bearing, seal or even the shaft. To fit the bearings, add gear lubricant to both the axle shaft bearing bore and seal lip, push the axle in so only the seal faces the outside and connect the shaft to the gear's inner splines without damaging the seal. Place the C-lock onto the end of the axle and push it away from the bike so it fits in the side gear. After that, pass the pinion shaft through the thrust washers and differential pinions into the differential case, position the shaft hole so it lines up with the hole in the case, use Loctite on the lock screw and tighten it to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.). Place the cover on and add fluid through the changer procedure. Attach the brake drum the correct way, add the wheel and the tire and after that, lower the vehicle.
