Before servicing or fixing the front coil spring, you need to lift and support the vehicle and then take off the front wheel and tire. After that, take the disc brake caliper off the steering knuckle and get the shock absorber out. Remove the tension strut from the lower suspension arm. With the DD-1278 Spring Compressor, start at the lower suspension arm, move it into the coil spring and shaft hole in the frame and check that the bell shape is lining up against the arm. Bring the spring compressor nut tight onto the bell shape and then give it a quarter turn to keep the spring secure. This way, the spring won't move while you prepare to remove the lower suspension arm from the steering knuckle. Open the ball joint nut and take out the cotter pin at the steering knuckle. Put on the Ball Joint Remover C-3564-A on the lower ball joint, allowing it to fit tightly and then draw the tool shut to force the lower ball joint and knock the steering knuckle with a hammer until the joint comes loose enough to take out. If you have to remove the control arm, first loosen the control arm pivot bolt. Take out the spring compressor tool and bring down the lower suspension arm to take the coil spring and isolator pad from the strut. To place the spring, stick the isolator pad over it and insert it into the lower suspension arm, flourished end up. Attach the Spring Compressor DD-1278, tighten the tool nut to press the coil spring and then place the lower ball joint on to the steering knuckle. Replace existing cotter pins with new ones then tighten the nut on the lower ball joint to 183 Nm (135 ft. lbs.) for LD 11/16 bolt or 237 Nm (175 ft. lbs.) for HD 3/4 bolt. Similarly, attach the tension strut, get rid of the spring compressor, add the shock absorber and finally hook in the disc brake caliper. Afterward, put the wheel and tire assembly back on, lower the car and inspect its front alignment.
