When working on the rear parking brake cables for 2500/3500 series vehicles, pull the parking brake lever, make sure the vehicle is in neutral and raise it. Loose the cable adjuster nut and remove the cables from the bracket in the back of the frame. Take off the clip fastened to the right rear bracket and pull the cable out from the frame. Squeeze the left retainer to get the cable through the frame bracket. Take out the right rear cable from its holder on the brake hose and remove the cable retainers from the axle. After that, remove the wheels from the rear and the brake drums as well, disconnect each cable from the park brake lever and free the cable guide spring. Pull the cable tab compressor on each retainer at the brake support plate and remove the cables. The steps should start with mounting the cable guide spring and the brake drums. First, pull the cable just a bit, then push it through the brake support plate hole where it can be attached to the park brake lever. Insert all the brake cable housings into the brake support plate's holes, making sure the tabs click in and then pull the housings to confirm they are held in place. Secure the correct cable retainers to the axle and latch the opposite brake cable into the hole in the bracket. Put both cables through the frame bracket, making sure the left cable reaches the end needed for the retainer tabs and then place and fix the retainer clip to the right cable, noting where they go as the right cable has the top hole and the left, the bottom hole. Connect the cables on one end to the cable tensioner bracket and then join them to the cable connectors. Replacing the wheel and tire assembly, doing a park brake adjustment, removing the supports and bringing down the vehicle should be the last steps.
