  When a transmission failure has contaminated the fluid, the oil cooler must be flushed, and the torque converter replaced to prevent metal particles or sludged oil from being transferred back into the reconditioned or replaced transmission. Begin by removing the cover plate filler plug on Tool 6906B and filling the reservoir 1/2 to 3/4 full of fresh flushing solution, ensuring that the solution is petroleum-based and free from acids, water, gasoline, or corrosive liquids. Reinstall the filler plug and verify that the pump power switch is off. Connect the red alligator clip to the positive battery post and the black alligator clip to a good ground. Disconnect the cooler lines at the transmission, ensuring to reverse flush the system by removing the converter drainback valve and installing a suitable replacement hose from the adapter kit supplied with the flushing tool. Remove the oil cooler from the vehicle, then connect the blue pressure line to the outlet cooler line and the clear return line to the inlet cooler line. Turn the pump on for two to three minutes to flush the cooler and lines, then turn it off. Remove the thermostat from the oil cooler and install Special Tool Cooler Plug 8624 into the transmission oil cooler, followed by reinstalling the snap-ring. Turn the pump on for another two to three minutes to flush the cooler and lines, then turn it off and remove the cooler plug. Install a new thermostat and snap-ring into the transmission oil cooler, then reinstall the cooler onto the vehicle. Disconnect the clear suction line from the reservoir at the cover plate and the clear return line at the cover plate, placing it in a drain pan. Turn the pump on for 30 seconds to purge the flushing solution from the cooler and lines, then turn it off. Place the clear suction line into a one quart container of Mopar ATF +4, type 9602, Automatic Transmission fluid, and turn the pump on until all transmission fluid is removed from the container and lines, purging any residual cleaning solvent. Finally, turn the pump off, disconnect the alligator clips from the battery, reconnect the flusher lines to the cover plate, and remove the flushing adapters from the cooler lines.
