Dodge Ram 3500 cars have a specific functional component known as EGR Valve that helps control exhaust gas recirculation which in turn has properties of removing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and also check overheating of the car engine. In turn, the EGR Valve reduces oxygen contents besides introducing inert gases in the burnt gases streams that are returned to the combustion chamber hence lowering the peak combustion temperatures. Many Dodge Ram 3500 EGR Valves over the years have been very simplistic: consisting of an orifice jet and various valves that are affected by the engine conditions such as coolant temperature and manifold vacuum. Such modern systems may include backpressure transducers in ability to determine the flow of EGR depending on the load of the engine. It is recommended to perform the maintenance often as the carbon deposits may cause the blockage of the EGR Valve and cause problems such as poor performance or damage to the engine.

Dodge Ram 3500 EGR Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install an EGR Valve on a 5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before installing the valve, put a new metal gasket between the 5.7L engine's cylinder head and the valve manifold. Installing the mounting bolts now, tighten them to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm). Maintain cleanliness at the junction between the EGR Tube and the EGR valve; then install a new gasket between the EGR tube flange and EGR valve assembly. With the EGR system removed, connect the tube to the top of the valve assembly and install two bolts. Tighten them to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm). After that, join the electrical connector to the EGR solenoid and straighten the negative Battery Cable. At the last step, use the diagnostic device to remove any prior DTC's from memory.
  • Q: How to Remove the EGR Valve on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
The EGR Air Flow Control Valve (5) slots onto the end of tube (2). First, pull away the clamp for the charge air cooler at point (5) and then take the duct off. After that, unplug the electrical connector at the base/inside area of the air control valve (1). Remove each of the four mounting bolts (4) and (6) to dislodge the air flow control valve (5). Lastly, get rid of gasket (3) after taking it off.
